Joshua’s Christening Service
Today we had our beautiful boy Christened at St Bede’s Semaphore, the Clark family church.
Joshy cried the whole time! (lol) clearly he didn’t like the lace on the dress, or wearing a dress!! The dress Joshua wore was my Christening dress and was worn by Taylor and Daniel too as well as some of my cousins. It was very special for me to see him wearing it too.
I will let the photos attached speak for themselves.
Joshua – 9 weeks old
Joshua was 9 weeks old this week. He is growing well and is a very happy baby. On the odd occasion he has a grizzly day but most of the time he eats, sleeps, plays and is starting to smile a lot.
At Joshy’s 8 weeks check up he weighed 4.5kgs. He has grown another 1.5 centimeters in length and his head circumference has increased by 1cm.
Joshua follows us around the room with his eyes now and is lifting his head more and more when on his tummy. He likes looking over our shoulders when we cradle him up there.
He plays on his play mat very happily and enjoys the caterpillar toy Taylor gave him.
On Wednesday he had his first round of immunizations. He didn’t cry very much and while a bit unsettled for the afternoon after having it, still slept well and seems not to fazed by it now.
Last week Omi and Opi were over and we took Joshua to the football for his first game. Fortunately Port won! Joshy must be a good luck charm.
Joshua – 6/7 weeks old
Well derr! I wrote this post and didn’t publish it 2 weeks ago when I should have!!
Joshua was 7 weeks old this week. Wow has time flown by since he was born. We can not believe it has been almost 2 months since his birth.
He is starting to smile now and turns his head when we speak with him. He has a very strong neck and lifts his head up off the ground when on his tummy, as well as throwing himself around when he’s in your arms. We have to hang on to him!!
He weighs over 4kgs now and is a healthy eater.
We had our first trip away with him, when we flew to Canberra for a Blackburn Bootcamp and he was very well behaved on the plane and didn’t cry at all during take off or landing.
He is only waking up once a night and has slept through a few nights as well (which was very nice!!).
Unfortunately he also got his first cold in the past 2 weeks. All of my “boys” have been sick, with John even spending 3 days home form work. Taylor and Daniel have been home off and on as well but they all seem on the mend now. Lucky for me I have not had anything but a sniffly nose, so fingers crossed. I am taking lots of vitamins!
I have attached a few more photos, he’s is such a beautiful boy..I’m not too biased, everyone keeps telling me!
Joshua 1 month old
Our darling boy is one month old. We have forgotten what life was like before we had him. We are busier but busier with him and not busier with things that do not matter.
Joshua has grown a lot and changed in this moth since his birth. He has put on lots of weight. At his last weigh at the Child Health Centre he had put on 340gms in a week (since the previous weigh) and had grown 4cms in length since he was born.
He is smiling sometimes now and earlier in the week, rolled from his tummy onto his back. Daniel and I thought it was fluke so we put him back onto his tummy and he did it again. So I guess that means he knows how to do it. Next challenge is rolling from back to tummy! lol
Joshy is sleeping well and is very settled and happy. He is only waking up once (sometimes twice) a night, but generally the one wake up around 3ish, means he settles right back and then doesn’t wake until 6-6.30am.
John went to Port Macquarie for 2 nights for work, so it was my first stint of doing the mother/baby/kids thing on my own. It wasn’t too bad. Tuesday night Joshy was a bit unsettled but John’s mum Bev was here so we took it in turns to look after him, but he still settled well in the evening anyway so we aren’t sure what was wrong.
We are off to Canberra next week for a workshop so it will be interesting to see how he goes but there are lots of people there who are wanting to see him because the last time we saw them I was almost 8 months pregnant with Joshy.
Our first weekend Home
We left the hospital at 10:45 am on Saturday for the short drive home to Mill Park.
Joshua got to drive in John’s Prius and he looked so cute sitting in his capsule to ride in the car.
It didn’t take us long to get home and Omi and Opi, Taylor and Daniel were waiting for us.
There was lots of fighting about who was going to bring Joshua inside, who was going to take him out of his capsule, who was going to hold him first!
The boys certainly love their little brother.
Later in the afternoon Josy’s big sister Amy came over and then James and Aunty Cheryl visited as well.
After a big day at home Saturday, we spent a quiet Sunday with our beautiful little boy who just slept, feed and gurgled all day long.
Joshua also had his first play with Amy and Daniel and was awake for over an hour in the afternoon, which was good.
After another bath – we have so many helpers!!! lol
- we put Joshy to sleep and went to bed for another round of night feeds!! hehehe
Joshua Day 5 – Happy 4th of July
Once again Joshua was really good overnight. The 2 rooms on either side of our hospital room were very very noisy!!! These people drove us mad, had to believe that they don’t think what they do can impact on others, but the result was Joshy stirred a little during the night every time either their babies cried, or the parents were talking IN THE CORRIDOR at 3.30am!!!!
I sent Joshua to the nursery to sleep at around 1.30am as he never really woke up, but stirred every time the noise levels rose, so I woke up thinking he was ready to feed and he went back to sleep and all I did was listen to the noise next door!! lol
Today we had another good day. The “old” Joshua was back. He was absolutely adorable all day and so good we were pinching ourselves again.
He self settles, rarely cries out unless hungry or needs a nappy change and is really strong – he can move his head all the way to either side and can even lift it a little bit.
All the grand parents came to visit today and Taylor and Daniel of course have been everyday to see their little brother.
We are all looking forward to going home tomorrow and learning how to live together with Joshua in his home, with his loving family.
Joshua Day 4
Joshua was such a good baby on Wednesday and slept well overnight. As often happens just when we were thinking we got the perfect child, all day he was grizzly.
He started off ok, waking up in the morning and spending time with his daddy in bed.
We tried everything with him but he would only settle when we held him and cuddled him, where as the day before he was happy to settle himself in his bed.
Even though we wondered what we were doing wrong, it was nice for us to do nothing all day but look after our little boy!!
His daddy gave him his first bath and he was a bit stressed about that at first, but he needed a wash after not being able to have a bath for the first 3 days of his life.
As evening came he eventually settled around 11pm ish and we all went to bed, wondering what our last day in hospital would bring before we went home.
Joshua Day 3
Joshua finally came out of the nursery just before midnight and spent his first night with us. It was wonderful to have him spend the night with us, even if daddy slept through the first wake up at 2am!!!
We had a good day today getting to know each other and he finally got to put his own clothes on and got wrapped in his own bunny rug.
His breastfeeding is going well and he is really placid and quite quiet. Not like his brothers at all!!!
Tonight he has his Hep B vaccine and also the PKU heal screening. Even that only upset him for a short time and a few minutes on the breast afterwards settled him right down.
He has been a bit vomitty today, but the Dr says that this is only from all the mucus in his lungs and he’s not too worried about it yet but will check on him again tomorrow.
